Why you should Join the Ingestible Collagen Movement
Part Two:
Why you should Join the Ingestible Collagen Movement
Because of Collagen's important role in maintaining healthy, youthful skin, it's no surprise that the popularity of collagen supplements has skyrocketed over the past few years. With the movement toward a more holistic approach to beauty that’s gained momentum in recent years, it’s likely that many people will be receptive to adding a collagen supplement to their daily intake of fresh pressed juices, organic fruits and leafy green vegetables.
While there are some topical skincare products known to increase collagen production like retinoids, their benefits are limited only to the areas where they’re applied. It’s easy to understand, then, why the prospect of rebuilding collagen from the inside out is so compelling.
But, the question is, does it really work? And how?
In China, the tradition of consuming certain foods to rejuvenate the complexion has been practiced for centuries. There, it’s widely accepted that those who have extremely collagen-dense diets will also have beautiful skin. Conversely, in the U.S., many of our diets are virtually devoid of collagen.
So, do collagen supplements really make a difference in the path to Aging Later?
Two studies published by Skin Pharmacology and Physiology find a daily regimen of a new type of collagen supplement improves skin elasticity and reduces wrinkles around the eyes by 20 percent after just eight weeks! Now those are some quick, wrinkle-reversing results!
Between the two studies, more than 200 women took Verisol, a collagen supplement that can be added to beauty vitamins and drinks to increase collagen in the skin. In the first study, 114 women between the ages of 45 and 65 took a daily oral dose and, after eight weeks, showed a 20 percent average decrease in wrinkle volume around the eyes—and a reduction of nearly 50 percent in some subjects.
Four weeks after the women stopped their daily regimen, wrinkle volume was still, on average, 11.5 percent less than it was at the start. The second study had 69 women in the same age group drink the substance dissolved in water for 8 weeks; the subjects older than 50 showed a significant improvement in skin elasticity, hydration and skin roughness.
If you’re thinking “Sign me up!”, it’s important to note that not all collagen supplements are created equal. Hydrolyzed collagen, which is made by purifying and breaking down the protein’s amino acids into low-molecular-weight fragments, is different from the old-school gelatin that gave your childhood desserts their jiggle. Because hydrolyzed peptides are so tiny, they’re much more easily absorbed by the body. It can be difficult to know which collagen supplements are right for you and which are the most effective. So, to make it easy for you....we'll begin with one question: Have you met YANA?
